Officer Who Fatally Shot Mike Brown Resigns: I will not let someone else get hurt because of me.
Officer Darren Wilson, the Ferguson, Missouri police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, has resigned. His attorney (Neil Bruntrager) confirmed the news over the weekend. As previously reported, Officer Wilson is the officer who shot an unarmed black 18-year-old that ignited protests across the country.
Darren Wilson’s resignation is effective immediately. In an interview with the St. Louis Dispatch, Wilson said that he was stepping down out of his “own free will” after the police department told him it had received threats of violence if he remained an employee:
I’m not willing to let someone else get hurt because of me.
