(EXCLUSIVE) Mobb Deep’s Prodigy Scores Legal Victory With Universal Music Over Stolen Royalties

theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy scored a legal victory in his battle with Universal Music over nearly $60K in royalties he claimed they were screwing him over on, with the music label and the rapper reaching a settlement to dismiss all claims against each other.

The rapper filed a federal lawsuit against Universal Music accusing them of stealing his royalties they aren’t owed.

The rapper explained he is a successful rapper and a member of the legendary group Mobb Deep along with his group mate Havoc.

He said that back in 1995, the group entered into a deal with Universal Music to sell 50% interest of their music rights. However, he claimed the deal never related to solo albums he released or for songs he wrote for other artists.

Despite the contract stating otherwise, he said that Universal started collecting royalties on other albums and songs he wrote for artists. He accused the music label of causing him harm and stealing royalties they weren’t rightfully theirs. He claimed that they owed him a total of $57,489.61.

Prodigy also sued for accounting for other royalties they may have taken, interest, an injunction against them from continuing to take money they aren’t owed and attorney fees.

It looks like Prodigy’s legal threat scared Universal Music into coughing up the money owed to the rapper. According to docs filed in the case recently, the rapper and UMG reached a verbal settlement in which they will dismiss all claims against each other once and for all.
