Florida Police Officer Accused Of Using Flock Cameras To Keep Tabs On His Estranged Wife More Than 700 Times
A Central Florida police officer is facing charges after an affidavit accused him of misusing license-plate-reading #Flock cameras to track his estranged wife’s vehicle hundreds of times over a 21-month span.
Christopher Anthony Goodson, 31, an officer with the Haines City Police Department since March 2022, was arrested on Aug. 11 and charged with one count of offenses against computer users/systems and one count of official misconduct. He’s since been placed on paid administrative leave. Goodson reportedly came forward to his supervisor on Aug. 10 after learning The Washington Post was preparing a story on his alleged misuse of the database, telling him he’d made “several inquiries” tied to his wife’s car — which he claimed were just to keep tabs on his kids while they were with her.
______________
A records query found Goodson had searched for his wife’s vehicle 717 times between September 2024 and June 2026, using both his police-issued laptop and cellphone, on and off duty. Per the affidavit, Goodson gave several reasons for his searches, including road rage and reckless driving, drug possession, theft, fleeing police, and assault-battery offenses. However, investigators say his wife was never actually connected to any criminal investigation, nor was her vehicle ever flagged as part of one.
______________
The Haines City Police Chief addressed the case in a statement, calling it “an unfortunate incident” while stressing that the department “does not tolerate the misuse, unauthorized access, or personal use of any investigative databases or law-enforcement information systems.” The department says it will continue using #Flockcameras going forward, calling them an effective tool when used correctly.
