‘Mothers of the Movement’ Addresses DNC, Tamar Rice’s Mom Absent [VIDEO]
Last night, the mothers of Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Mike Brown, Hadiya Pendleton, Dontré Hamilton and Sandra Bland, mad the case for Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention.
Their children have all been involved in racially-charged incidents and urged voters to elect Clinton, arguing that she cares deeply about racial injustice. When they took to the stage, some attendees yelled, ‘Black Lives Matter’. See the clip.
One high-profile name was missing. Samaria Rice, the mother of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, did not participate. Tamar died in November 2014 after he was shot by police in Cleveland while he played in a park with a toy gun.
In a recent interview with Fusion, Samaria explained that no candidate is
speaking my language about police reform.
She’s also communicated her displeasure with President Barack Obama,
He may mention something about it, but he’s not really going to go into details about it and hold the government responsible for killing innocent people.
Tonight Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will speak at the DNC. [NBC News, LA Times]
