(EXCLUSIVE) 50 Cent Sued For Stealing Pilot & Turning It Into Hit Show ‘Power’
50 Cent Sued For Stealing Pilot and Turning It Into Hit Show Power. theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) is being accused by TWO writers of stealing their television show script and turning it into the hit Showtime series “Power” without ever compensating or crediting them. And now, they are demanding an injunction from the show continuing to air along with all profits the program has raked in since it premiered.
R. Byron Hord and Curtis Scoon filed a Federal Lawsuit against 50 Cent, G-Unit Films and Starz Entertainment.
The duo explains that back in 2009, they finished writing a script entitled “Dangerous” for a pilot episode of an original teleplay about an African-American protagonist’s work as a drug dealer and his attempts to launder his money and then “go legit” while struggling with the balance between his friendship with an Irish gangster and his female love interest.
The writers copyrighted their work the same year. They had a meeting the following year with film and television executives and they believe one of them pitched their idea to the rapper.
However, they say 50 never called them about their work and instead decided to willfully and improperly develop, produce and film his own television show derived from their work.
They point out that 50 Cent’s show “Power” has a substantial amount of similarities — too many to be a coincidence.
The writers filed suit accusing 50 Cent and the network of copyright infringement and are demanding actual damages, statutory damages and an injunction against “Power” from continuing to be aired due to it being a complete knock off of their work, which they never received any compensation for or any credit.
The pair also want the judge to order all profits from “Power” be put into a trust with the court until the outcome of the case, due to them believing they are owed all profits the show has made off their
idea.
