White Actor Plays Michael Jackson In New Series [VIDEO]
White Actor Plays Michael Jackson
Joseph Fiennes, a white actor, is facing new backlash after playing the role of Michael Jackson for a TV special titled “Urban Myths.” This week, the first trailer for the project has been released. Images of Fiennes as the late legendary singer has re-ignited the controversy surrounding his casting. Fiennes responded to the controversy last year, stating
I’m a white, middle-class guy from London. I’m as shocked as you may be. [Jackson] definitely had an issue — a pigmentation issue — and that’s something I do believe. He was probably closer to my color than his original color.
In the teaser released from the satirical comedy series, Fiennes as Jackson rides in a care with Stockard Channing, who portrays the late Elizabeth Taylor.
Some suggest Fienne’s portrayal of Jackson is ‘whitewashing’. In fact, Jackson once told Oprah he’d be ‘horrified’ if a white actor ever played him on screen. Check out the teaser.
Is Fiennes playing Jackson offensive?
