Tiffany Haddish Was Molested By Foster Care Dad, Suffered Miscarriage After Husband Beat Her
Tiffany Haddish Was Molested, Suffered Domestic Violence From Husband
Tiffany Haddish’s rise to fame hasn’t been easy. The 38-year-old actress, who was the break-out star in Girls Trip, is opening up about some of the super challenging hurdles that she faced growing up. While in foster care (she was placed in foster care between the ages of 13 and 18), she was molested by her foster father.
She says that when she was just 13, her foster father offered to suck on her breasts to help them grow after he caught her stuffing toilet paper in her training bra. Haddish says she started letting the man do it every day for 15 minutes before she left for school. At the time she didn’t realize that it was wrong. When she was 19, she told a friend about it, thinking that it was truly done to make her breasts grow. She said the friend told her she was actually molested.
In my mind, ‘molested’ meant somebody hurt you in some kind of way. Like, they took something from you that you didn’t want to give. And what the old man did never hurt. It didn’t necessarily feel good, either, it was just whatever. And he never tried nothing else with me, not even once. It was just like—in my mind—he was helping me out.
Haddish also admits that she had a dysfunctional marriage, marrying and divorcing the same man twice. Recalling a time when he got violent towards her, she says that after a comedy show, he became outraged that she was speaking to another male comedian (Tom Green). She says,
He grabbed me by the collar, he was like, ‘It’s time to go to the room now,’ in front of everybody. Just snatched me by my shirt, and pulled me to the elevator and threw me in it…once we got to our hotel room, he was so quick. He snatched me by the neck and slammed me into the wall.
She reveals that she even suffered a miscarriage, after one of his attacks. At the time, she didn’t know she was pregnant.
Kudos to Haddish for not only persevering in the face of unbelievable circumstances, but having the courage to share her story!
