Wanda Sykes Quits ‘Roseanne’ After Star Makes Muslim & Ape Joke About Former Obama Advisor, Who Is Black
Roseanne Barr is under fire. On Tuesday, she made a negative comment that some say is racist. The actress and comedian tweeted an insult at former President Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarett, who is an African American woman. She has since deleted thee tweet. In the tweet, she attacked Jarett, linking her to the Islamist organization Muslim Brotherhood and the movie “Planet of the Apes.” She wrote,
“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,”
When users criticized Barr, suggesting her comments were racist, she responded,
“Muslims r NOT a race.”
She later tweeted her first tweet was “a joke” and apologized stating,
I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.
The show’s consulting producer, Wanda Sykes, said on Tuesday she would not be returning for the second season after Barr’s tweet.
