Eminem Denies Using ‘Gunshot’ Sound Effects At Concert

When ‘Keeping It Real Goes Wrong’ was a segment made popular on The Dave Chappelle Show. Multi-platinum rapper Eminem is facing criticism for allegedly using ‘realistic ‘ sounding gunshots at a concert over the weekend. The rapper (real name Marshall Mathers), burst on the scene in 1999 after signing to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records. Thus far in his career, he’s had 10 number one albums, selling over 220 million records globally. In hip hop performances and mixtapes, the gunshot sound effect is used frequently by DJ’s and performers on stage.

However, Eminem’s recent performance at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival left some fans reeling and other fans defending the rapper.

One fan, said on social media,

He has used this sound effect as have hundred other artists in his live show for over 10 years, including previous US Festival dates in 2018 without complaint.

Another fan said,

I hate to be the one to say it, but being someone who suffers from very mild PTSD, it was extremely irresponsible and distasteful to in songs with the gunshot sound effect.

Social media was trending with unhappy concert goers voicing concern. Another fan said,

I have grown up loving Eminem in his music but I was extremely triggered to the point of tears. 

Another tweeted,

This is not funny or even something to be joked about. 

The rapper and Nicki Minaj recently joked about being a couple however, this latest incident is nothing to joke about. Representatives for the multi platinum rapper stated the following,

Contrary to inaccurate reports, Eminem does not use gunshot sound effects during his live show.

The statement continues,

The effect used by Eminem in his set was a pyrotechnic concussion which creates a loud boom.

Many fans are outraged following the mass shooting at Route 91 country music festival in Las Vegas last year. Some are viewing the perceived gunshot sound effect as being insensitive to that tragedy. Whether the sound was a gunshot or not many felt traumatized after his performance of “Kill You”, which is not want the rapper wanted.

The song, from his 2000 album ‘Marshall Mathers’ is rather violent.

“We ain’t going to never stop beefin’. I don’t squash the beef. You better kill me! I’m going to be another rapper dead for popping off at the mouth with s*** I shouldn’t have said but when they kill me I’m bringing the world with me b****** to You Ain’t Nothin But a girl to me b**** Ima kill you!”

As we previously reported, Eminem recently celebrated ten years of sobriety.
