Michael Jackson Musical Heading To Broadway, Slated To Premiere In 2020
Fans of Michael Jackson get ready for some exciting news!! A musical detailing the life of the “King Of Pop” is getting ready to hit the stage. Columbia Live Stage and the Michael Jackson Estate announced on Tuesday (June 19) that they are developing a new musical inspired by his life. The untitled musical is expected to arrive on Broadway in 2020. According to reports, the show will use his music.
Playwright Lynn Nottage who is known for Pulitzer Prize winning plays “Ruined” (2009) and “Sweat” (2017), is set to write the book for the show. Christopher Wheeldon, Tony-Award winning choreographer and contemporary ballet superstar is signed on to direct as well as give his distinctive take on Jackson’s legendary choreography.
Jackson who has been called the “King of Music Videos” was well known for his popular dancing style and innovative moves. Has influenced so many artists not only with his vocal ability, but he was considered one of the best dancers in the music industry. Some his most famous dance moves included the moonwalk, the kick, the slides and glides, the anti gravity, the spin, the “Dangerous” dance and the “Thriller” dance. “Thriller” is considered to be one of the most epic video performance of all time. Also, the zombie themed video broke racial barriers and defined music videos on MTV back in 1983.
The musical score will draw from Michael’s catalogue of famous hits and a list of favorites which include some his most popular songs that includes “Thriller,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Beat It,” and “Don’t Stop
‘Til You Get Enough.” Only a few details have been released and the name and casting decisions for the production are unknown at this time.
