‘Black Panther’ Stars Surprise Student With A $250,000 College Scholarship
One lucky student received a full ride to college when she was awarded a $250,000 scholarship from the cast of Marvel’s Black Panther.
Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o attended The Hollywood Reporter‘s 2018 Women in Entertainment event to hand out The Black Panther Scholarship created by Walt Disney Studios. The scholarship would give one lucky girl a full ride to Loyola Marymount University.
This year’s recipient, Kalis, 17, of Inglewood, CA, plans to become a pediatric dermatologist.
Gurira said before presenting Kalis her scholarship,
We know that if we want to live in a world that looks more like Wakanda, the first step is you invest in women and girls,
Kalis gave a thank you speech after being honored.
I would like to thank my parents who birthed me, who made me who I am today. … I just want to stand and say this is for girls who live in Compton, who live in Inglewood, and this is for girls and men who face adversaries. I just want to say that we can do it and it is possible.
Congrats to young Kalis!
