Drake Commemorates 10th Anniversary Of “So Far Gone,” Thanks Kanye
10 years ago, on February 13, 2009, Toronto rapper Drake exploded onto the hip-hop music scene with his crowd-pleasing and critically-acclaimed mixtape “So Far Gone.” To commemorate the project’s 10th anniversary, Drake took to social media to thank all those involved in the album, and those who have influenced his career…including on/off rival Kanye West.
Drake has released a number of albums in the last 10 years, but for many, his mixtape “So Far Gone” is the most special. At the time of its release, Drake was a relatively unknown Toronto import, known to younger audiences for his role on the Canadian teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, who was bubbling under the radar. The mixtape was a massive success and quickly cemented Drake as one of hip-hop’s major players.
Fast forward 10 years later and Drake celebrated the “So Far Gone” anniversary with a sentimental Instagram post thanking all those who worked on the mixtape and also artists who have been influential in his career, which surprisingly included legendary rapper/producer/designer Kanye West. Drake and West have a complicated history to say the least, so many fans of both artists were shocked to see Drake’s shout out.
Of West, Drake wrote in his caption:
“@kanyewest a decade ago I rapped over your beat cause you just made the best shit and even though you stay wildin on twitter these days I will never forget what you contributed to the game and my career.”
Drake also thanked a host of others, including Lil Wayne, Lebron James, Trey Songz, Omarion, Bun B and Bria Myles. He ended his caption revealing that “So Far Gone” will finally be available on streaming services for the first time this Valentine’s Day.
