Star Jones Thinks Barbara Walters and Joy Behar Leaked News of Her Gastric Bypass Surgery
Almost 16 years after having a quiet life-changing gastric bypass procedure, lawyer/journalist Star Jones revealed a shocking detail about that time to Ramin Setoodeh, the author of “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View.” Star reportedly thinks that her “The View” co-hosts, Barbara Walters and Joy Behar, leaked news of her gastric bypass procedure before she went public about the surgery. The reason? To tarnish her public image.
Ramin Setoodeh opened up to Andy Cohen on a recent episode of “Watch What Happens Live” about the juicy details of his upcoming book, including Star Jones’ beef with her co-hosts. He said:
“Star Jones said as she was being fired in 2006, both Barbara Walters and Joy Behar were leaking stories of her gastric bypass to The New York Post to ruin her reputation.”
Star took to People Magazine with this vague statement in response to Ramin’s “WWHL” appearance:
“My time at The View was one of the great opportunities of my lifetime. Of course there were conflicts over the years, however I will forever consider Barbara Walters (along with my dear friend, the late Johnny Cochran) to be one of my two most influential mentors. The opportunity to sit beside her for so many years was a ‘master class’ in many aspects of my personal and professional life that I relish and am eternally grateful for.”
Before weight loss surgery, Star Jones was over 300 pounds and eventually shrunk down to 160 pounds. In 2007, she told Glamour Magazine that she was afraid she would be judged for having surgery. She said:
“[I was] scared of what people might think of me. I had spent my entire adult life telling everyone that I was fine with the way I looked. I never thought I’d have to explain it.”
She continued:
“The toughest part of the journey has been forgiving myself for not having the self-control I know I should have had, or admitting I needed help…I say with all sincerity, the surgery saved my life.”
Star Jones’ drama with Barbara and Joy wasn’t the only bomb that was dropped in “Ladies Who Punch.” Former host Rosie O’Donnell also revealed that she was sexually abused by her father after her mother’s passing. She said:
“Any child who is put in that position, especially by someone in the family, you feel completely powerless and stuck, because the person you would tell is the person doing it.”
“Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View” by Ramin Setoodeh is set to release on April 2nd.
