Bill Cosby Denies Reaching Settlement In Defamation Case, Accuses Insurance Company Of ‘Corruption’
Despite recent reports, Bill Cosby says that he didn’t reach a settlement agreement in a defamation lawsuit against him. The suit was filed by seven women who accused him of sexual assault. They filed the complaint after one of Cosby’s attorneys said the women lied about their claims against the disgraced actor. While an attorney for the women (Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis, Louisa Moritz and Angela Leslie) informed a Massachusetts federal judge that they were happy with a settlement, a representative for Cosby, Andrew Wyatt, had a different take according to CNN.

“Mr. Cosby did not settle any cases with anyone. He is not paying anything to anyone, and he is still pursuing his counterclaims. AIG decided to settle these cases, without the knowledge, permission and/or consent of Mr. Cosby. Mr. Cosby vehemently denies the allegations brought against him in these defamation suits and he maintains his innocence.”

Cosby also added in a statement via Wyatt,
“AIG showed that they’re a part of the corruption against me, by paying off these distractors, without my knowledge, without my permission and/or without my consent. I, [Bill Cosby], will never settle any defamation claim, I will continue to pursue my counterclaims, and I will not relinquish AIG from its responsibility in defending my defamation claims.”

As for AIG, the company is involved because it was Cosby’s homeowner insurance provider. So, it was ordered to defend him in this lawsuit and two others, one being a defamation complaint filed by model Janice Dickinson after his legal team accused her of lying. AIG even filed its own lawsuit against Cosby in hopes of getting out of the order to defend him, but the actor one that suit.
AIG has responded after Wyatt’s comments and suggested that it had authority to settle the case.
“Certain insurance policies provide insurers with the authority to resolve claims when the insured has been informed,”
Cosby also filed a counterclaim against the women.

For now, he is serving 3 to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty for sexually assaulting a woman named Andrea Constand.
