Loni Love Opens Up About Her Interracial Relationship: I’m The 1st African American Woman He’s Dated

The Real host Loni Love has been very vocal about her love life throughout the years—and now she’s opening up about her current relationship with boyfriend James Welsh.

It’s been less than a year since Loni Love and boyfriend James Welsh started dating, and if you watch The Real you are likely aware about their relationship journey because she frequently discusses it on the show. Now, in a new interview, she’s revealing even more about their relationship, specifically regarding being an interracial couple.

Love speaks candidly about Welsh and their relationship, which began in August of 2018 on a dating app. Speaking about Welsh’s demeanor, she says:

“He’s a really nice guy. He hit me and I was like ‘Wow, he has really kind looking eyes’.”

On her past dating history and preferences, Love explained what was missing in her life:

“The older I get the simpler I’m getting. When I was looking for somebody I was just looking for the compatibility part. The thing I think that I was missing in my life was that I was always conforming to what the man wanted instead of saying this is what I want to do.”

Love also discussed being in an interracial relationship with someone white, after previously only dating black and Hispanic men:

“The people I’ve always dated have been black or Hispanic. I left it open. I was getting all types of men. The mindset that I had was let me find out who the person is before I go judging and saying ‘Oh, I can’t date you because of this or that.’ Everybody is so surprised and I’m surprised myself. But it really doesn’t matter. I’m the first African American woman he’s dated and he said he just didn’t think about it. It’s not a big deal. We get along, we like each other, we understand each other.”
