R. Kelly’s Crisis Manager Darrell Johnson Says His Comments About Pedophiles Did NOT Get Him Fired, Now Says ‘I Would 100 Percent Leave My Daughter With R. Kelly’
Darrell Johnson said his decision to step down as R. Kelly’s crisis manager has nothing to do with him making comments about pedophiles, such as Kelly, who is currently being charged with child pornography among other things.
While Kelly’s in jail, Johnson has resigned. His resignation came just after he made it clear he would not leave his daughter with someone being accused of pedophilia. When asked if that included Kelly, he suggested that the singer wasn’t an exception.
Now, Johnson has insisted that his comments didn’t get him fired. In fact, he said he’d have no problem leaving his daughter with Kelly.
“I had some personal issues back in my hometown. I decided that at this particular time, it was best to step away. One of my family members is on their deathbed right now and I’m gonna go attend to that.”
He adds,
“I have nothing against Gayle [King], or CBS. Nothing at all. I just think when you do a taped interview it can be chopped up. And my words are my words. If I had to do it again, I would 100 percent leave my daughter, which this is not what this is about, with Kelly, if I had to leave.”
As far as Kelly’s legal woes, Johnson said he’s convinced Kelly will get acquitted. Johnson released a statement to announce his resignation earlier this week.
“I step down as crisis manager for personal reasons. Mr. Kelly is in good hands with [his attorney] Mr. [Steve] Greenberg.”
Greenberg said in a statement,
“As has been reported, Darrell Johnson has decided to take some time off, for personal reasons, from the efforts on behalf of R. Kelly. The defense wants to thank Mr. Johnson for his tireless assistance and looks forward to his return. He shares our confidence that this is an unprecedented assault against R. Kelly by others, for their own personal gain, and in the innocence of R. Kelly.”
