Black Panther Sequel Set For 2022 Release, Ryan Coogler Returns To Direct
The highly anticipated sequel for the record breaking “Black Panther” film has an official released date. During Marvel’s D23 event in Anaheim, California over the weekend, director Ryan Coogler made the exciting announcement to fans. “Black Panther II” will be released on May 6, 2022. The Marvel studio shared their announcement on Instagram writing,
“Just announced at D23 Expo, Ryan Coogler returns to direct Marvel Studios’ BLACK PANTHER 2, in theaters May 6, 2022.”

Coogler stated during the announcement,
“We’re taking our time, we’re really trying to get it right.”
No plot details about “Black Panther 2” have been revealed. Although, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige gives insight on Coogler’s plans for the sequel complete with a villain.

The date will place “Black Panther 2” as the furthest out announced Marvel film, between “Thor: Love and Thunder” (Nov. 5, 2021) and an unannounced film slated for July 29, 2022 — although whether Marvel will keep that date, just two months after “Black Panther 2,” is up in the air.

As previously reported, many Marvel and Black Panther fans have speculated on the return of actor, Michael B. Jordan’s character, Killmonger. In January, actor Courtney B. Vance revealed Jordan will in fact be apart of the sequel.
“Yes, just go ahead and say it, yes! Everyone will be there, including Michael B!”
The film also made history with its nearly all-black cast including Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Forrest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, and Angela Bassett. Since hitting theaters in February 2018, Black Panther has grossed more than $700 million in theaters worldwide.
