Tekashi 6ix9ine Accused Of Staging Kidnapping, Compared To Jussie Smollett
Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is facing speculation that he faked his own kidnapping for publicity. And he’s now being compared to actor Jussie Smollett who was accused of pulling a similar hoax earlier this year.
Smollett allegedly faked a hate crime against himself when he claimed that he was attacked and suffered racial and homophobic slurs from Donald Trump supporters. Read more about that alleged incident here.
In the trial for Tekashi’s reported kidnapping, the alleged kidnapper’s lawyer, Devereaux Cannick, pointed the finger at Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, and said he staged the whole thing to promote his single “FEFE” featuring Nicki Minaj.
Cannick alleged that Tekashi getting kidnapped in July 2018
“was a hoax.”
He added,
“It’s a Jussie Smollett, if you will.”
Cannick, who represents the accused kidnapper Anthony Ellison, pointed out that shortly before the incident, Tekashi posted a “diamond-encrusted pendant” to Instagram and wrote,
“Someone please snatch my chain so my project could sell more.”
Cannick added,
“He had to get that buzz up. What kind of buzz? Kidnapping.”
Still, prosecutors have alleged that Ellison kidnapped Tekashi during an internal dispute with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. Ellison and co-defendant Aljermiah Mack, were said to be members of the gang.
Assistant US Attorney Jonathan Rebold alleged that Mack was the one who sold drugs and Ellison was a supposed “enforcer” for Tekashi.
Rebold said,
“Musical success meant money. Money for Hernandez, money for the leaders, money for the gang.”
Tekashi will share his side of the incident when he testifies against Mack and Ellison this week. The trial is expected to last for two weeks.
