Martin Luther King III Wants NFL Boycott Until Colin Kaepernick Is Signed Again

Martin Luther King, III is still rooting for Colin Kaepernick. So much so, that he has called for a boycott against the NFL.

The civil rights activist said that’s what it will take to get Kaepernick back to the football league. He said,

“What would change it overnight is if the public decided, ‘Okay, we’re not going to watch.'”

While he added that this isn’t the most realistic route, he did point out that some type of action needs to be taken after the league allegedly blackballed the former quarterback for protesting against police brutality during the national anthem of NFL games.

King added,

“The industry did blackball him, which is not good. He certainly is one of the most talented quarterbacks even today, probably. There are times when you need strategic quarterbacks who have a proven record. And, certainly, Colin Kaepernick is one of those.”

This isn’t the first time King has stood with Kaepernick. He also showed his support during the Super Bowl festivities in February. He compared Kaepernick to his late father, legendary civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kaepernick began his protests by kneeling during the national anthem of the league’s games in 2016. It started a whirlwind of related protests as other pro footballers followed suit. Still, Kaepernick hasn’t been selected to play for an NFL team since then.

Meanwhile, rapper Jay-Z has caused controversy as he teamed up with the NFL to serve as its live music entertainment strategist. When addressing the criticism he received considering Kaepernick’s NFL status or lack thereof, he said it’s time for more actionable steps beyond kneeling.
