Coco Gauff Makes History! At 15, She’s The Youngest Tennis Player To Win WTA
Congratulations to tennis star, Coco Gauff! On Sunday (Oct. 13th), she made history by defeating the 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 at the Linz Open in Austria. Her victory makes her the youngest tennis player to win a WTA final. The 15-year-old says after her historic moment,
“This was definitely not on the calendar at the beginning of the year, because I didn’t think I’d have a chance to get in, and now I’m the champion, so it’s crazy.”

“It’s just literally insane that I got in as a lucky loser and now I’m the champion. My dad told me when I got in, before the first main-draw match: ‘You can’t lose twice in the same tournament!’ I’m sure he never thought it would come this far, to being the champion, but I guess he was right.”

“I mean, I can’t buy a car, because I can’t drive.

“This is the first time I ever cried after winning a match. I never thought this would happen. I don’t know how to explain it. I’m literally living my dream. Not many people get to say that.”
The tennis star’s agent Tony Godsick says since her victory against Williams this summer, sponsors have been,
“ringing off the hook.”
