Seahawks Sign Ex-Running Back Marshawn Lynch

Beast mode is back! Marshawn Lynch is coming out of retirement following agreeing to terms with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night (Dec. 23rd). The following day on Tuesday (Dec. 24th), the Seahawks officially welcomed the 33-year-old vet back to Seattle in an Instagram post adding the caption,

”He’s back!”

The move to sign Lynch is a result of the Seahawks losing third top third running back following Chris Carson’s injury this past weekend. According to reports, Lynch’s new contract with Seattle strictly includes Week 17 and postseason action.

“Lynch’s contract is for this season only — Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers and the postseason.”

Reportedly, Lynch will be active for Seattle’s divisional title Week 17 match-up against the red hot, San Francisco 49ers on Sunday (Dec. 29th).

In a press conference on Tuesday, Lynch who typically is anti-media, spoke very briefly on his signing with the Seahawks. He says,

“Happy holidays, merry new year, trying have a great day. It’s great for me to be back, thank you!”

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll explained bringing back Lynch.

“When you get to add somebody like that to your team, it only helps and enhances the mentality that we already cherish anyway. We’ll find out how he can play and how he does. It’s been a little while off, he looks great in the first couple looks at him, as far as his conditioning and all of that. His weight’s down, he’s in a really good spot.”

As previously reported, Lynch was reportedly set to make his second retirement announcement in April following reports of Raiders head coach, Jon Gruden interests in a younger running back from the upcoming NFL draft.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed Raiders coach was in favor of the team’s 5-time NFL Pro Bowler, but is currently set on moving on with a younger RB.

“The Raiders love Marshawn Lynch, but Jon Gruden had moved on and made it clear. They plan to take a RB early. John Jacobs in the 20s is a possible target for Oakland.”
