“Fast & Furious 9” Postponed For A Year Over Coronavirus
The upcoming premiere date for “Fast & Furious 9” has been pushed back for an entire year. Initially, the popular franchise was scheduled to be released in the United States on May 22, 2020. It will now open globally in April 2021 and in the U.S. on April 2. The studio announced the news today (March 12th). See their announcement below.
F9 is an action film directed by Justin Lin and written by Daniel Casey. A sequel to 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, it will be the ninth main installment in the Fast & Furious franchise and the tenth full-length film released overall. It is the first film in the franchise since 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious to not be written or co-written by Chris Morgan and the first film since 2013’s Fast & Furious 6 to be directed by Lin.
The film will star Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron. In the film, Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his family must face a new, deadlier enemy in the form of Jakob (Cena), Dominic’s younger brother, as well as their old threat Cipher (Theron).
The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was first reported in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in December 2019. On March 11th 2020, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a pandemic. As of March 12th, 2020, over 130,000 cases have been confirmed in more than 120 countries and territories, with major outbreaks in mainland China, Italy, South Korea, and Iran. More than 4,900 people have died from the disease and 68,000 have recovered.
