Kelly Rowland On Her Marriage: If I Have To Role Play & Be Alicia Tonight Then It Needs To Happen, Divorce Is NOT An Option
It’s not often we see singer Kelly Rowland dishing on her marriage to Tim Witherspoon. But the “Coffee” singer opened up about keeping the spark alive since tying the knot in May 2014. She told PEOPLE,
“As far as sex is concerned, I’m like, ‘Well, if I have to play dress up and do role-play, honey, if I need to be Alicia tonight and give you a surprise in the middle of the night or something then it needs to happen. We spice things up a bit and keep it fun. When we met each other, we had fun. Two years from now, we’ll have fun. I think if you hold that close to you, it can always show itself in your relationship.”
Kelly Rowland also said she and Tim Witherspoon go to therapy every week to keep an open and honest dialect in their relationship,
“If I wasn’t taking the time to get to know myself better in this crisis, we would be struggling. We go to therapy every week and we’re so proud of it. It’s just to keep the relationship and the space of communication open, [so we’re] ready for each other. I have a husband who supports me and is there for me and loves me and I’m the same for him. I met my best friend. There’s nothing that we can’t talk about. When I meet an older couple, I always ask them, ‘What’s the one thing that can break up a marriage?’ and they’re like, ‘Money and communication.’ With every challenge, there is a solution and I think he and I have grown to talk about everything.”
Kelly Rowland continued and said that she is happy and willing to do anything to maintain her marriage because divorce is not an option. She said,
“Before I was married, I was like, ‘Well, if it doesn’t work, you just get a divorce, [But now,] that’s not an option for me. That’s not an option for me because I know I have a good man. I know I have someone that loves me unconditionally and we’re gonna sort this thing out, we’re gonna figure it out. Above anything, we’ve got faith and we’ve got each other. Marriage means a lot to me. It’s something that I hold very sacred.”
In other Kelly news, she recently opened up about being managed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation,
“That’s new. It’s family and it just happened. It just really happened to work and it’s working out really well so far. My team, I have a great team. It’s not to say I didn’t have a great team before, I had a great team before. You evolve, you move on and that’s really it and Roc Nation is home now.”
She dropped her latest hit single “Coffee” last month and plans on dropping an album soon as an independent artist,
“I’m very excited about this album. I’m excited for the fact that the years that it took me to find tempo. …The whole album’s not up-tempo, but I’m excited to share my tempo. I feel like I always had mids and slower records but yeah, I’m ready to dance. Especially when we come out of all this, we need to dance. I have at least one more record to do. In my gut, I feel like I have like one more record to do.”
She added,
“The thing is, before quarantine, we were at the close of the record. That’s when you’re like turning records in, talking to writers and producers, starting that whole process of the ending process. It’s not that it’s slowed down but definitely made things a little more challenging to navigate. We got this. We got this, but definitely, definitely this year. I’m not waiting anymore. I’m not wasting anymore time. I’m doing it this year.”
