‘9-1-1’ Actor Ryan Guzman Defends Wife’s Use Of The N Word + Calls Out Latinos Cardi B & Fat Joe For ‘Using It For Years’
Ryan Guzman of Fox’s “9-1-1” series is facing major backlash by not only social media but his castmates after he defended his wife Chrysti Ane’s use of using the N-word.
He went on Instagram live to defend why she felt it was okay to use the term, saying her black friends have let her use it,
“Let’s address it, okay, you’re telling her that she can’t speak through Twitter to her black friends, that have allowed her to say that back and forth with them, specifically. Mind you that is a part of a conversation had on social platform, I can see the misconstrued insight on that. That being said, I have plenty of friends, Black, White, Asian, Indian, whatever they are, Korean? We call each other slurs, all the time. WE don’t get butt hurt at all, nah, because we know the actual person, we know who each other are. We know that we’re not trying to bring each other down. So what are ya’ll trying to get at? You’re trying to prove that somebody that’s not racist is racist? Nah you don’t have that power. There is no racist energy coming from this household at all.”

His castmates then took to Twitter voicing their opinions on Ryan Guzman’s comments, starting with Oliver Stark saying that he doesn’t agree with Ryan Guzman,

His black co-star Aisha Hinds also took to her Twitter to express her thoughts,

He hopped on Instagram live again to clarify what he meant by his previous video, calling out Cardi B, Fat Joe, and Tekashi 6ix9ine, for getting a pass to use the term,
“After having some time to really think about it, and really calm myself down. I felt I have to clarify certain things. Let me first start off by saying I do not condone the use of the N word by any non black person. That includes; all latinos, that’s not our word, alright? So that people that are coming after me, keep that same energy for Cardi B, Tekashi 6ix9ine, Fat Joe, all those latinos that have been using it for years upon years and get passes from it by 50 Cent and whoever else and what not, and saying it in the music. Keep that dame energy.
He goes on to say that he apologizes for his use of the word “slur” and says that his wife has been getting death threats,
“That being said, let me clarify and address the real situation at hand. When I said slurs, I can come an angry place, I couldn’t think straight and I misspoke, all that was going through my mind, is seeing theses comments about my girl, and about my 1 year old son. Seeing death threats to my girl? And seeing this foul a** language about my 1 year old son, and I misspoke. I meant to say stereotypes, and do I condone stereotypes? Nah Now amongst friends, can friends make fun of each other? Yes. That being said, I’m not here to bring anybody down do race down.”
Lastly, he closes out the video by saying he will continue to grow, and he is here only to help out our black brothers and sisters,
“As far as my girl goes, using the N word 9 years plus ago, I don’t even know how old, she was 16? I think she’s grown as a woman, I think she has apologized for it, I remember her doing a tweet last night apologizing for it. And I don’t condone her suing it, we don’t use that word in this household, that’s not out word. I’m not here to take way from what the black community has gone through, or take something from them, I’m here too help them, in any way. Through support, through anything. So that being said, I apologize to those that I have offended, and misrepresented myself by using the wrong term. I stand by, I try, fail, learn grow, state of mind and I will continue to grow and help the community. So hope everybody has a great day, enjoys their life, let’s help out our black brothers and sisters going through this horrible, difficult time.”
