Michael Jordan & Jordan Brand To Donate $100 Million to Organizations Fighting for Racial Equality

NBA hall of famer Michael Jordan, 57, says in a joint statement with the Jordan Brand on Friday (June 4th), that he along with the brand will donate money over the next 10 years with the goal of ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education.

“The Jordan Brand is us, the Black Community. Jordan Brand is more than one man. It has always been a family. We represent a proud family that has overcome obstacles, fought against discrimination in communities worldwide and that works every day to erase the stain of racism and the damage of injustice.”

The statement continues,

“Black lives matter. This isn’t a controversial statement. Until the ingrained racism that allows our country’s institutions to fail is completely eradicated, we will remain committed to protecting and improving the lives of Black people.”

“Today, we are announcing that Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand will be donating $100 million over the next 10 years to organizations dedicated to ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education,”

As reported earlier this week, the Charlotte Hornets owner expressed his grief and outrage over the death of George Floyd. In his statement, Jordan says he is standing with those who are calling out the systematic racism issues. He begins,

“I am deeply saddened, truly pained and plain angry. I stand with those who are calling out the ingrained racism and violence toward people of color in our country. We have had enough.”

However, Jordan’s first statement omits the word “police” amid the ongoing clash of Black Lives Matter protesters and law enforcement across the country.

Jordan Brand first took to Twitter days after the death of George Floyd sharing a short clip called “Be a part of the change.”
