Beyonce Drops Surprise Single ‘Black Parade’, Proceeds To Benefit Small Black-Owned Businesses

Multi-talented and Grammy award-winning performer Beyonce released a surprise song entitled Black Parade on Juneteenth (June 19th)! The vocalist’s release date of the song is significant as Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African-Americans were made aware of their freedom from bondage through the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth originated in the state of Texas where Beyonce was born and raised and is now celebrated annually throughout the United States.

The lyrics of the powerful song are heavy with pride in being a Black American and reference the protests that have spanned across America in wake of the police-involved deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. Beyonce posted a simple black poster along with a short clip of the very beginning of the song to her official Instagram and captioned it:

Happy Juneteenth Weekend! I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle. Please continue to remember our beauty, strength and power.
