Rihanna Apologizes To Muslim Fans After Getting Backlash Over Song Played During Savage X Fenty Fashion Show
Rihanna’s recent Savage X Fenty fashion show was well received with raving reviews, except for the matter of a song choice that left many of her Muslim fans furious and attempting to “cancel” the singer turned designer.
The “Umbrella” singer is being accused of culturally appropriating Islamic culture for playing a song called “Doom” performed by London producer Coucou Chloe during the show. The song, reportedly a version of a hadith, consists of “highly revered records of the traditions or sayings of the Prophet Muhammad,” which reportedly make it extremely offensive for anyone’s use outside of the Muslim culture.
After the premiere of Rihanna’s fashion show on Amazon Prime, many social media users began to react to the use of the song, calling for an explanation from the superstar. Some fans have used strong language, calling Rihanna Islamophobic while others are more understanding.

Rihanna has since responded to the criticism and apologized to fans on Instagram.

This is not the first time that Rihanna has been accused of cultural appropriation. In 2019, the superstar sparked backlash after posing on the August cover of Chinese Harper’s Bazaar dressed in couture Geisha garb.
