MSNBC To Name Rashida Jones As President, Will Be 1st Black Exec To Run A Major News Network
Rashida Jones has been named President of MSNBC in a history-making move.
She is currently the senior vice president of MSNBC, and will soon be taking over for current longtime President Phil Griffin this February.
Phil Griffin has been president of MSNBC since 2008, and will be leaving his role at the end of January.
NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde said about Rashida taking on the new role:
“Rashida knows and understands MSNBC, in part because it’s where she started when she first joined NBCU seven years ago. She knows that it is the people who work here that make it great, and she understands its culture. She also appreciates the impact and potential of the brand.”

Actress Rashida Jones shared a funny congratulatory post on her Instagram for the MSNBC exec, who she happens to share a name with.
She wrote,
“Congrats to Rashida Jones!! The FIRST BLACK PERSON EVER to run a major cable news network!! I’m so proud to share a name with you and also take this #myelf challenge to the next level. Rashida Jones on Rashida Jones INFINITY. ZOOM IN”
