Taraji P. Henson’s ‘Empire’ Spinoff Will Not Be Picked Up By Fox

Taraji P. Henson’s ‘Empire’ Spinoff Will Not Be Picked Up By Fox
It doesn’t look like Cookie Lyon from the hit series ‘Empire’ will be appearing on our TV screens again anytime soon. According to reports, Fox has decided not to move forward with the spinoff series centered around the fictional character played by Taraji P. Henson.
‘Empire’ was a musical drama television series created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong for Fox. The show premiered in January of 2015 and ran until April of this year.
As previously reported, Taraji P. Henson’s production company, TPH Entertainment, was allegedly set to produce the ‘Empire’ spinoff. It was meant to be the first project to stem from Taraji P. Henson’s first-look deal with studio 20th Century Fox TV.

The project was reportedly more than likely pulled due to a split between 20th Television and Fox. When the spinoff series was initially in development the two production companies were a part of the same company. However, 20th Television has since been acquired by Disney and retains ownership of the show and Fox Entertainment no longer has any stake in it.
