Chris Rock Says He Was Considered To Play Jerry Seinfeld’s Best Friend George Costanza on ‘Seinfeld’
Could you see Chris Rock starring in a classic sitcom like Friends or Seinfeld?
The iconic comedian revealed it almost happened.
While on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Monday (Jan. 11th), he addressed rumors that he was once considered to play Jerry Seinfeld’s best friend George Costanza on Seinfeld. While Jason Alexander ultimately landed the role, Chris Rock said:
“I just heard that one. I mean, it was a lot of NBC talk. There was talk about Seinfeld. There was talk about me being one of the Friends at one point. Yes, I would have been the Black friend. That’s basically who I am to America at this point.”
He continued:
“Let’s just say the good people at Seinfeld, they made the right choice. He’s good. He’s amazing.”
He added another fun fact and said he was also considered for the role as Theo Huxtable’s friend Cockroach on the long-running series The Cosby Show. Carl Payne played the role. Chris Rock added:
“I was supposed to be Cockroach on The Cosby Show. That was supposed to happen, where I was Theo’s best friend, and thank God that didn’t happen.”
