Lil Wayne’s Lawyer Denies Rapper Supported Donald Trump To Get Clemency
Lil Wayne was one of the dozens of people pardoned by Donald Trump in his last day of office earlier this week. But the former president’s move came just after Lil Wayne supported Donald Trump ahead of election night, sparking speculation that he only supported Donald Trump to get clemency.

Before Donald Trump’s pardon, Lil Wayne was facing 10 years in jail for federal gun charges and was scheduled for sentencing in March. Thanks to Trump, he won’t have to get sentenced at all.
He pleaded guilty in December for illegally possessing a loaded handgun when going to Florida on a private plane in 2019.
Now, Bradford Cohen, the attorney who set up the October 2020 meeting between Trump and Lil Wayne on criminal reform, has denied that it was in exchange for a pardon.
Cohen, who appeared on Trump’s The Apprentice in 2004, told The New York Times,
“I think they had a very strong connection.”
While he said Lil Wayne didn’t meet with Trump for clemency, he added,
“It never hurts that someone gets a full understanding of an individual when they’re just looking at a piece of paper. In hindsight, I guess it worked out.”
Howard Srebnick, who represented Lil Wayne last year, released a statement on Jan. 20th and said the pardon
“for Mr. Carter is consistent with the views of many jurists — including Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett — that prosecuting a nonviolent citizen for merely possessing a firearm violates the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”
He added,
“The gold-plated firearm, which Mr. Carter never operated, is a collector’s piece, given to him as a Father’s Day gift.”
