Daniel Kaluuya Reveals He Wasn’t Invited To ‘Get Out’ Premiere

Daniel Kaluuya was the breakout star of Jordan Peele’s  film Get Out, but now he has revealed that he didn’t get an invitation to the movie’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

He said during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show,

“On the Sundance world premiere, I was in Atlanta because I was shooting ‘[Black] Panther.’ I was chilling, I cleared my schedule. I was like, ‘I really wanna do it.’ And then just didn’t get the invite. I wasn’t invited.”

He continued and said he had no idea how well the film was received until someome told him via text.

“So I was just in my bed — someone texted me, ‘It’s done really well.’”

He added,

“That’s the industry. This is the game…You don’t wanna be in a place that you don’t feel wanted.”

Clearly, all is well between him and Jordan Peele, as he’s set to star in Peele’s upcoming project opposite Keke Palmer.

Get Out was released on Feb. 24, 2017 and made $255.5 million worldwide against a $4.5 million budget. The film, which was shot in 23 days, went on to win an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Daniel Kaluuya was also nominated for Best Actor.

Chadwick Boseman

While on the show, Daniel Kaluuya also shared his thoughts on the upcoming Black Panther sequel. He said the film needs to pay homage to the original movie’s star, Chadwick Boseman, who tragically died of colon cancer last year.

“We’re gonna have to honor him… give as much to his legacy as much he gave to us. ‘Cause he gave us everything – stayed here to give us everything… an incredible man, an incredible soul.”
