Kanye West’s New Yeezy Logo Is Too Similar To Walmart’s, Grocery Chain Alleges In Complaint Against Rapper
Does Kanye West have beef with Walmart now?
Reportedly, Walmart, Inc. has filed a complaint with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last week (April 21st). The basis of their complaint is that Kanye West‘s proposed new trademark for his Yeezy brand resembles Walmart’s well-known, sun-like trademark symbol. Specifically, the retail giant claims the “Heartless” rapper’s proposed trademark “is likely to cause confusion and lead to consumer deception.”
Walmart, Inc. has used their sun-like trademark–affectionately referred to as Spark–since 2007. Yeezy, on the other hand, debuted back in 2015 as a collaboration with Adidas, and Kanye West‘s brand has been noteworthy on account of its highly-coveted shoes and polarizing clothing styles.
Here are what the trademarks in question look like, with Walmart, Inc.’s on top and Kanye‘s just below:

Proposed Yeezy Trademark
As we can see, both trademarks share a strong resemblance to the sun, but there is a difference in the number of rays the sun-like symbols have and how they’re stylized (Walmart’s has six solid rays, while Kanye‘s has eight dotted ones). However, it seems as though Walmart, Inc. is still not satisfied and wants Kanye to find a new, more distinctive trademark for Yeezy.
