Jaleel White Talks ‘Hindsight’ On Friendship W/ Bill Cosby: You Put Yourself In Rooms Where You Realize His Wife Wasn’t There
Jaleel White is reflecting on his previous friendship with Bill Cosby.
The Family Matters star opened up about their connection on TVOne’s Uncensored that aired Sunday night (May 9th).
In 2018, Bill Cosby was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison after being convicted for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman, Andrea Constand, at his home back in 2004. Dozens of women also came forward with sexual assault claims against the actor.
Jaleel White first met Bill Cosby when he was considered as a role for his youngest child on The Cosby Show. The part ultimately went to Keisha Knight-Pulliam after Bill Cosby pushed for his character to have another daughter instead of a son.
Jaleel White, who went on to star in Family Matters, recalled,
“I fostered a relationship with Mr. Cosby, separate and apart. Many dinners at his house, breakfasts, I even ran into a rough patch and he’s directly responsible for why I ended up at the William Morris Agency, which became an education unto itself.”
He spoke on the claims against Cosby and added,
“You go back in time and you realize how close you were to something, and you put yourself in rooms where you realize, his wife wasn’t there. That woman was probably there for that purpose. You know, it’s a hell of a hindsight thing to look at.”
While he revealed he and Cosby are no longer friends, he didn’t explain why. Instead, he said,
“It was like, a revered man did a terrible thing and he’s paying the price. It’s just like, I think that’s where we leave it. A revered man did a terrible thing and he is paying the appropriate price.”
