T-Pain Reacts To Backlash Against Usher After Revealing Singer’s Comment Sparked 4-Year Depression: I Still Love & Respect Him

Update #2 (June 23rd): T-Pain has come to Usher’s defense after revealing a comment from the Climax singer lead to him experiencing depression for four years.

He tweeted yesterday (June 22nd):

“I still love and respect @Ushertelling that story was in no way meant to disrespect that man. Ppl talk shit about me 24/7 but when it comes from someone you truly respect it hits very different. I never said f*ck Ursh it was a drop in the ocean of shit I was already goin through”

He continued,

“And for the ppl goin back 48 weeks to dig up a tweet. Pls find something to do. That was before shawty said anything and the song never came out after I got the information I needed. Leave me out of the Stan convo thanx”

Original Story (June 22nd): T-Pain is revealing how a comment from Usher caused him to battle to depression for four years.

In a sit-down with Entertainment Weekly’s upcoming Netflix series This Is Pop, T-Pain recalled Usher making the life-changing remark.

“We were actually going to the 2013 BET Awards. We were all in first class. I went to sleep, I was awakened by the flight attendant. She said ‘Usher would like to talk to you in the back.’ So I got up and went back and he was like ‘How’s everything going?’ Quick, small talk. No big deal. And he was like ‘Man I wanna tell you something man.’ I was like ‘What’s good?’ I thought he was about to tell me something real – he sounded real concerned. He was like ‘Man, you kinda f***ed up music.'”

He continued,

“I didn’t understand. Usher was my friend. He was like ‘Nah man, you really f***ed up music for real singers. Literally, at that point, I couldn’t listen. Is he right? Did I f*** this up? Did I f*** up music? And that is the very moment, and I don’t even think I realized this for a long time – that is the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”

T-Pain infamously used the voice-altering Auto-Tune feature with his 2005 debut single “I’m Sprung” and for several popular songs after that.

He won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song (“Good Life” collaboration with Kanye West) and Best R&B Song (“Blame It” with Jaime Foxx).

Neither T-Pain nor Usher have made further comments.
