Lil Baby Named Songwriter Of The Year At 2021 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards
Congratulations are in order for Lil Baby!
Only a few weeks following the well-received release of his collaborative album–The Voice of the Heroes–with Lil Durk, Lil Baby (real name Dominique Jones) has been crowned songwriter of the year. The announcement came at the 34th annual ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Awards. Instead of a traditional ceremony this year, the ASCAP Awards are being held virtually, as the winners are being announced on ASCAP’s social media.
On its Instagram page, ASCAP saluted various songs penned by Lil Baby that contributed to his win – specifically”Baby,” “The Bigger Picture,” and “Emotionally Scarred.”

On top of the songs he penned for himself, Lil Baby was also honored for co-writing Pop Smoke‘s “For The Night.”

This morning, Lil Baby acknowledged his accolades on his Instagram page. On top of thanking ASCAP, he also responded to the news that he was the songwriter of the year by writing:
“Tell em don’t play wit u ….okaaaaayyyyyy.”

Previously, Cardi B was crowned songwriter of the year back in 2019 and 2020. As a result of this success, she became the first female artist to be named ASCAP’s songwriter of the year twice.

To celebrate his achievement, ASCAP will air an exclusive video of Lil Baby performing a brand new version of “The Bigger Picture.” The video will air later today (June 23rd) on ASCAP’s YouTube channel at 4 p.m. EST.
