Laurence Fishburne Says He Has No Idea Why He Wasn’t Asked To Return As Morpheus For ‘Matrix 4’: You’d Have To Ask The Director
Laurence Fishburne will not be starring in the upcoming Matrix 4 movie, and he has no idea why!
As previously reported, Laurence Fishburne first confirmed he would not reprise his role as Morpheus back in August. While speaking with New York Magazine, the actor stated:
“I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it’s great.”
Regarding his well-known role as Morpheus, which he reprised throughout the first three Matrix films, Laurence Fishburne said:
“It is probably the role that I’ll be best remembered for, which is great; it’s not the only thing I’ll be remembered for, which is better.”
Now, the actor has revealed that–almost 11 months later–he still has no idea why he has not been invited to the fourth installment of the franchise. During an interview with Collider, Laurence Fishburne claimed:
“I am not in the next Matrix movie and you know, you’d have to ask [director] Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that.”
In response to Laurence Fishburne‘s statement, his interviewer responded:
“I am disappointed, and I know you can’t say, but I’m really hoping you’re lying to me because I really do want you to be in the movie.”
To this, the actor simply smiled, remaining silent.
Despite Laurence Fishburne not being asked back to the franchise, several people from the initial Matrix films are returning. Keanu Reeves is reprising his role as Neo, and Carrie-Anne Moss is returning to star as Trinity. Additionally, Jada Pinkett Smith, Daniel Bernhardt, and Lambert Wilson are returning as well.
Matrix 4 will also add new actors to the project, such as Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff.
The official title of the fourth Matrix film has not been publicly revealed, and the movie has a release date of December 22nd via HBO Max.
