Simone Biles Says She Met Her Boyfriend, Houston Texans Player Jonathan Owens, By ‘Sliding In His DMs’

Who knew social media was responsible for Simone Biles’ relationship?

She revealed in an interview with Wall Street Journal that she met her boyfriend, Jonathan Owens of the Houston Texans, after sending him a private message last March (at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic).

She said,

“He would say I slid into his DMs. I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said hi … and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”

Things went further when her sister Adria grabbed her phone during one of Simone Biles’ many FaceTime conversations with her now-boyfriend and asked him to come on a trip to a lake house. He came, along with his English bulldog Zeus. Simone Biles also had her French bulldog Lilo in tow.

It’s safe to say they hit it off because he then started getting invited to her family’s Sunday dinners.

Interestingly enough, Jonathan Owens previously said he had no clue who the Olympic gold medalist was at first. He said on her Facebook Watch series Simone vs. Herself, 

“Her work ethic was really the first thing that caught my eye. I never really watched gymnastics before I first started talking to her. When I met her, I honestly didn’t know who she was. It was just kind of like, ‘Oh, she’s got a lot of followers. You know, she must be pretty good or something.”

He added that that’s even how he would describe her to other people and found out she’s an all-star gymnast from their reactions. He said,

“That’s how I would tell people, and they’re like, ‘Simone Biles?! You for real, the gymnast?!’ And I’m like, ‘Man, she’s good like that?!’ I didn’t [know].”
