Eboni K. Williams Says Her Discussion On Race Shouldn’t Be Blamed For Low ‘RHONY’ Ratings
Eboni K. Williams is the newest full-time cast member of Bravo’s The Real Housewives Of New York, and she’s also the first black star. Viewers who watch the show know she doesn’t shy away from racial topics and holding her co-stars accountable.
Despite the conversations that clearly make some of her fellow cast members uncomfortable, Eboni K. Williams said the low ratings the show suffered this season aren’t her fault (a recent episode from the season was the lowest-rated episode of all-time with only 764,000 viewers, according to The Daily Mail).
She said during an interview with TMZ that she shouldn’t be blamed because she doesn’t decide what actually goes on the air. Instead, producers make the final call.
She also pointed out that the show is no stranger to confronting hard topics like mental health, divorce, alcoholism, and bankruptcy. She said the topic of race shouldn’t be an exception.
Insiders close to cast members also claimed some of Eboni K. Williams’ co-stars are over race being an ongoing conversation in each episode. They said the reality show is supposed to be entertaining and light-hearted with a touch of drama.
Williams said some viewers and a few of her co-stars are making her out to be the bad guy. She added that she wouldn’t have an issue if her castmates didn’t have “microaggression”issues.
Her comments come after she addressed criticism that she’s “too preachy” earlier this week. She told Andy Cohen of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live,
“My answer is simply this. A — I’m a little bit of a preacher and I wear that as a badge of honor. And I’m a little bit of a teacher too.”
She added,
“The other thing is I really just wanted to go into this thing, Andy [Cohen], making the most authentic connections with the women and just being truthful and honest about where I am and what I’m about. And if there’s an outstanding question about values alignment, I’ve got to get to the bottom of it. That’s all.”
