Naomi Osaka – ‘Sports Illustrated’ Editor MJ Day Blasts ‘Bully’ Megyn Kelly Over Remarks About Tennis Star: How About You Do Your Job & Fact Check?
While Naomi Osaka can obviously stand up for herself against social media hate, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue editor M.J. Day also came to her defense over Megyn Kelly’s comments.
As previously reported, Megyn Kelly called out Naomi Osaka for gracing the cover of the magazine after opting out of press interviews during the French Open in May. Naomi Osaka said that back then she didn’t want to speak to the media in an effort to protect her mental health. She ultimately withdrew from the tournament after being fined $15,000.
Megyn Kelly took issue with Naomi Osaka’s recent covers and slammed her on Twitter. Osaka responded before blocking the Fox News host. See their exchange below.

Now, Day is slamming Kelly too. She said during an appearance on PEOPLE Every Day podcast that the photoshoot was completed months ago, long before Naomi Osaka backed out of interviews. Day explained
“Well, first of all, we did that shoot back in December of 2020.”
She called out Megyn Kelly’s remarks, adding:
“It’s such bullying and it’s so unnecessary, and this woman did nothing wrong. I’m like, ‘You know what, you’re journalists. How about you do your job and you fact check instead of jumping all over this woman for attention?”
She went on to say people like Megyn Kelly are “part of the problem” when it comes to openly discussing mental health.
“How about we do our due diligence and make sure we know the reality of a situation before we come for people? It broke my heart to see someone who is really living her life for the betterment of others while also trying to pursue her own passion, which is tennis and fashion. Let her live. Let her make decisions for herself that protect her own wellbeing. It’s at no cost to anyone.”
She also had a few words for Kelly on social media.

An insider close to Kelly responded with the following statement,
“A bully is someone who attacks another with less power for the sake of being hurtful. Not a journalist/commentator who gets paid to comment on the news/public figures.”
