Spike Lee Sees Validity In 9/11 Conspiracy Theories: I Got Questions
Almost 20 years after the attacks on the World Trade Center, Spike Lee is opening up about his belief in 9/11 conspiracy theories.
During a recent interview, Spike Lee (real name Shelton Jackson Lee) spoke on his upcoming docuseries, New York Epicenters: 9/11 – 2021 1/2. The series primarily focuses on New Yorkers’ reactions to 9/11 and the current COVID pandemic. Additionally, the docuseries also incorporates views from the conspiracy group Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth. The group believes that the U.S. government was involved in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
When asked about the conspiracy group’s inclusion in the docuseries, Spike Lee stated:
“I mean I got questions, and I hope that maybe the legacy of this documentary is that Congress holds a hearing, a congressional hearing, about 9/11.”
He continued:
“The amount of heat that it takes to make steel melt, that temperature’s not reached. And then the juxtaposition of the way Building 7 fell to the ground–when you put it next to other building collapses that were demolitions, it’s like you’re looking at the same thing.”
Spike Lee then added:
“But people [are] going to make up their own mind. My approach is to put the information in the movie and let people decide for themselves. I respect the intelligence of the audience.”
Conspiracy theories have surrounded 9/11 since the event itself. Specifically, the bulk of many 9/11 conspiracy theories centers on World Trade Center Building 7, which was destroyed after the Twin Towers went down. Building 7 was officially reported to have been destroyed due to debris from the Twin Towers causing an internal fire. However, some people believe that the building was intentionally demolished in order to cover up evidence of corruption or involvement in the 9/11 attacks. Suspicion also surrounded Building 7’s destruction as it housed a CIA and Secret Service office.
Despite the speculation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has allegedly found no evidence of Building 7’s collapse being an intentional demolition.
