Whoopi Goldberg Apologizes For Saying ‘The Holocaust Wasn’t About Race’
Update #1: Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from “The View” for two weeks over criticism for her remarks that the Holocaust was
“not about race.”
Her suspension was announced in a statement released by ABC News public relations on Tuesday night.
“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” reads a statement attributed to Kim Godwin, president at ABC News. “While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”
Original Story: Whoopi Goldberg apologizes for her anti-Semitic comments.
Legendary actress Whoopi Goldberg apologized to the Jewish community after making some insensitive comments about the Holocaust. On an episode of The View, the co-host claimed that the historical event wasn’t about race. Her apology, which was posted on Twitter, read:
“On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both. As Jonathon Greenblatt from Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people–who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected.”
It continued:
“The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.
Written with my sincerest apologies,
Whoopi Goldberg.”

During a discussion about a Tennessee school district’s decision to pull a Holocaust book from the curriculum, Whoopi stated:
“Let’s be truthful about it because Holocaust isn’t about race. It’s not about race. It’s not about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”
When Whoopi’s co-host Ana Navarro mentioned that “it’s about white supremacists going after Jews,” Whoopi responded:
“But these are two white groups of people! The minute you turn it into race it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white, Jews, it’s each other.”

Many people, from Jewish leaders to daily internet users, were highly offended by her comments.
