Yesterday (March 10) was a visibly emotional day for 39-year-old actor Jussie Smollett. After being found guilty of falsely reporting and staging a hate crime – that allegedly took place in Chicago back in January of 2019 – the former “Empire” star was sentenced to serve 150 days behind bars, as well as pay $120,000 in restitution and $25,000 in fines.
After the sentence, Jussie continued to assert his innocence and said that if anything happens to him in jail he did not do it to himself. The actor left the courtroom repeatedly stating:

According to reports, Jussie was given a medial and mental health assessment as well as a security assessment prior to being taken in. Additionally, the sentencing judge in Jussie’s case, judge James Linn, specified in the terms of his sentence that the California native would serve his time in protective custody as requested by he and his legal team. Protective custody is reportedly granted in order to protect an inmate from any form of harm while serving time.
Reportedly, Jussie is also facing a separate lawsuit for the crime hoax by the Chicago Police Department, suing the actor for resources spent during a false investigation in the amount of $130,000.
