Telfar Clemens Talks Price Increase Of His Handbags & The Backlash He Received: ‘There’s Designer Bags Way More Expensive Than This & Nobody’s Saying Anything About This’
It looks like Telfar Clemens, 37, is setting the record straight and addressing the backlash he received after raising the prices on his beloved handbags!
During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, the Liberian designer decided to address the backlash and share his opinion on the matter. Clemens said,
“If you consider me a designer, luxury brand— there’s designer bags way more expensive than this and nobody’s saying anything about this.”

“Also two, I think people that two, don’t know about the brand and think that I’m raising the price of the regular shopping bag–which I priced that specifically based on what I was making as a DJ at night. Like $120 bucks was what I got for DJing an hour set and I know I could have afforded that if I did three gigs that night or week.”
As previously reported, black-owned luxury brand Telfar recently sent fans into a frenzy when it was announced that its new Circle Bag would retail for $567, causing a significant price jump compared to its previous bags. What makes this bag different from the popular shopping bag is that its signature T logo is a part of the bag’s structure versus it being engraved into the bag. It also comes with a detachable strap, giving the buyer more flexibility in style. Regardless of the improved changes to the bag, fans were still upset.
Many argued that the price is unreasonable and unfair for a handbag that’s composed of faux leather. Others noted that the brand should stay true to its promise of affordability. See reactions below:
