Missy Elliot Denies Claims Made By Reggaeton Artist Jowell, Who Falsely Accused Her Of Taking 99% Royalties For ‘Get Your Freak On’ Sample

Missy Elliot is clearing the air after a false story about her went viral.

Following Reggaeton artist Jowell’s recent claims about Missy’s “Get Your Freak On” royalties, Missy responded denying the claims and calling his statement “irresponsible”.

The 2001 hit “Get your freak on” by Missy Elliot is a handsdown classic. It makes sense why Puerto Rican artists Bad Bunny and Jowell & Randy would sample the beat in their collaboration song “Safaerra”.

Despite the spanish songs popularity – garnering over 330,000,000 views on Youtube alone – vocalist Jowell from the duo Jowell & Randy, reportedly claimed that the three artists only get 1% in royalties because Missy “stayed with everything”.

According to reports he stated:

“Many people think that I was made into a millionaire with ‘Safaera’ but no…It was supposed to be the “opportunity hit of a lifetime, but because of the song’s uncleared sample mistake, it didn’t turn out to be that way.”

Reportedly, the 40-year-old artist addiotionally stated Missy asked for “millions” of pesos, and that agreement resulted in each of the songwriters’ royalties dropping to 1 percent each stating:

“I owned between 15 to 30 percent [originally]. They took everything. They gave me 1%, Randy 1%, even Bad Bunny has like 1%.“

Jowell later took to twitter responding to a user who reacted to the article, blaming him for some Missy backlash. In the response he stated:

“F*ck that let them enjoy their money. It’s not me and you enjoying it right ? Let them be happy and talk about something else . Missy don’t even care . Why would you ?

Missy responded to the tweet, stating Jowell “mislead” people and that she actually only receives 25%, and the rest is distributed between the other artists involved:

And following up letting it be known that she does indeed care, calling Jowell’s statements irresponsible:

The reggaeton singer then claims some communication was lost in translation and waves Missy the white flag, to which she gracefully accepted:

And rightfully ending the conversation, shooting his collab show with the “Work It” artist:
