Issa Rae Explains Why She Publicly Shut Down Pregnancy Rumors After Her Mother Believed Them: I Had To Say Something Because It Was Getting Out Of Hand

Issa Rae reveals that her mother, Delyna Diop, is the reason why the usually reserved entertainer took to social media earlier this year to shut down pregnancy rumors!

During a recent interview, Issa Rae, 37, revealed that she chose to speak up and dispel speculation that she and her husband Louis Diame, were expecting a child, after her mom wondered if she was keeping it a secret from her. She explained,

“My sister sent me a screenshot of my mom texting her an article like, ‘Did she tell you … Are the rumors true?’ I was like, ‘What?!’ (My sister) was like, ‘Not Mom believing in gossip!’ I was like, ‘But she texted you and she didn’t even ask me!'”

Issa continued,

“I’m like, ‘Mom, a pregnancy … you really think that I would hide a grandchild from you? That you’ve been begging for?!’ So I had to say something, because it was getting out of hand.”

In March, the Insecure alum took to Twitter to clarify that she and husband Louis Diame were not, expecting their first child. In a since deleted tweet, Issa Rae said,

“I am not pregnant, f-cky—verymuch.

LET A B-TCH EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY.”

Although they’re not ready to have kids yet, the 37-year-old actress/producer contemplates if she would reveal it to the world or keep it private. She said,

“I’m not sure. Maybe if I have a child, I’ll feel like, ‘Everybody needs to see this thing!’ I don’t know!”

One thing is for sure, Issa Rae knows how to keep a secret! The ‘Rap Sh*t’ creator/producer shocked the world when she posted wedding photos of she and her husband last July. Until that point, she had never even confirmed being in a relationship, so it’s safe to say, fans were stunned by the news. Issa and Louis tied the knot July 2021 in the South of France. In Issa Rae fashion, she announced the news in a hilarious post joking about a fancy “impromptu photo shoot” she staged in a custom Vera Wang dress.
