Black Firefighter Seeks $4M After His Captain Allegedly Took Him To A Racist Party While On The Job: What I Had To Experience A Month Ago Cut Me Very Deeply
Attending a private party with his boss went left for Jerrod Jones.
Reports state that 14-year veteran of Rochester Fire Department, Jerrod Jones, is suing for $4 million in damages after his captain, Jeffrey Krywy, took him and his three colleagues to a private party during their shifts.
Jerrod Jones said the crew arrived at the event located in a large home in their fire uniforms. They described the home to be in “one of the city’s most affluent communities.” Jones claimed he immediately felt uncomfortable when he walked up to the house and saw a cutout of former United States president, Donald Trump. According to the claim, he admitted to seeing two large Juneteenth flags, along with KFC buckets of chicken and a woman mocking Democratic county legislator Rachel Barnhart in a sexual way.
In a recent press conference Jones spoke out against his department and the incident. He said:
“I was born and raised in Rochester. I’m from the town, I’m from the west side. It means a lot to me when I put that uniform on and I’ve always wanted to represent my city in the correct manner, a decent manner, a honorable manner. What I had to experience a month ago it cut me very deeply.”
Jones continued:
“Sorry that you had to be here today, but in order for things to change we have to do difficult things and one of those difficult things is speaking up against a department that you love with everything within you. Sometimes some of your brothers may be collateral damage but I decided to speak up today because I have two children that maybe one day will aspire to be firefighters and I don’t want them to have to experience what I experienced. I wouldn’t want your kids to have to experience that. There’s a lot of young people that are on the job today because of me and they look up to me.”
Jones added:
“So, I feel obligated to do the right thing and speak up. Traditionally, the fire house we handle things, like a family does, in house. Things don’t make it out to the public eye, but every once and awhile something happens that can’t be handled in house. This is one of those things, this is one of those times. As terribly as I feel, I’m glad it happened to me and not somebody that can be easily intimidated. So, today I hope is the last time we’ll have to address an issue like this.”
