Zoe Kravitz Regrets Calling Out Will Smith For Slapping Chris Rock: I Wish I Had Handled That Differently
Actress Zoe Kravitz is reflecting on her actions following Will Smith and Chris Rock’s viral Oscars moment.
During a recent interview, The Batman star admitted she wished she’d done things a little differently following the incident. If you recall Zoe Kravitz, 33, took a jab Will Smith after the King Richard star stormed the stage back in March, slapping comedian Chris Rock who was hosting the awards show. Kravitz took to her instagram back then writing
“Here’s a picture of my dress at the show where we are apparently assaulting people on stage now.”
Doubling down in the comments that she was wholly not in support of Smith’s actions.

After being asked recently about her role in the situation, Kravitz stated:
“I’m torn about what to say right now, because I’m supposed to just talk about it; I have very complicated feelings around it….I wish I had handled that differently. And that’s okay.”

She continued:
“It’s a scary time to have an opinion or to say the wrong thing or to make controversial art or statements or thoughts or anything….It’s mostly scary because art is about conversation. That should, in my opinion, always be the point. The internet is the opposite of conversation. The internet is people putting things out and not taking anything in.”

Subsequent her comment about the slap, Kravitz was hounded by Smith supporters who unearthed previous “inappropriate” comments she made about Smith’s son Jaden. Social media users labeled the actress a “predator” due to her apparent gushing over Jaden after the two co-starred in a film together.

However despite internet chatter, Kravitz says she’s determined to move forward, expressing herself via art, and not as much on social media. Concluding the interview, she stated:
“I was reminded that I’m an artist….Being an artist is not about everybody loving you or everyone thinking you’re hot. It’s about expressing something that will hopefully spark a conversation or inspire people or make them feel seen. I think I’m in a place right now where I don’t want to express myself through a caption or a tweet. I want to express myself through art.”
