Will Smith Resumes Biopic Negotiation W/ Netflix Following Chris Rock Slap

Will Smith may be given a second chance following his infamous Oscar slap.

According to reports, actor and comedian Will Smith was in negotiations with Netflix over a film pertaining to  his life which was halted after he assaulted Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony back in March over a G.I Jane joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. 

Following the assault, one major corporation is willing to do business with Will Smith according to reports released on Friday (Aug. 19). Sources said:

“Will was left out in the cold by Netflix and Apple TV+ in the wake of the slap.”

The source continued:

“He has since apologized and stepped out of the spotlight for a lengthy period. With this in mind it is broadly agreed enough time has passed to let the dust settle.”

The source added:

“It has been made clear discussions can be started again about a biopic which Netflix were interested in.”

It is unfortunate that the incident that occurred with Rock will have to be a part of the discussions on the speculated Netflix show. A source explained:

“Arguably, the slap, and the fallout, are pivotal moments in Will’s life and will become part of the storyline of his life.”

A source continued:

“Netflix wants to be part of those conversations and Will’s team have no doubt Apple will follow suit.”

As previously reported, on Friday (July 29) the Fresh Prince of Belair star, who is banned from attending events for the Academy for a decade, released a public apology on social media to Chris Rock, 57, and his family. The 53-year-old said:

“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk. And when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable. and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

His wife, Jada Pinkett Smith addressed the incident on an episode of her podcast The Red Table Talk. The 50-year-old said: 

“About Oscar night: My deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile. With the state of the world today, we need ’em both, and we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years — and that’s [to] keep figuring out this thing called life together.”
