G Herbo Speaks On Being In A Dark Place Following The Death Of His Brother, Says He Turned To Alcohol To Cope w/ The Grief: I Was Drinking Literally Everyday
Rapper G Herbo is getting candid about the difficulties he faced when grieving the loss of his brother.
During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, G Herbo (born Herbert Randall Wright III) talks about how difficult last year was for him after his brother died.
“It was a lot. I went into a real slump. I would say it was depression but–you know, you wouldn’t call it depression, you would just say it’s a rough patch in my life.”
G Herbo reveals that he turned to alcohol to cope with the grief, causing major concern from his family and friends.
“Being depressed when my little brother died, I went literally–out of the whole year, I don’t even think I had a month sober. I was drinking literally everyday. I wake up drinking, drinking going to work, doing interviews…”

He continues,
“It was hard. It’s tough to go through that and be honest with yourself and knowing I’m drinking too much. You feel like an alcoholic but you still drinking just because you wanna be able to get through the day. “
The ‘Sessions’ rapper admits that even though he had family and friends around him that tried to offer support and advice, he was stubborn and didn’t want to listen to anyone including his mother and his fiancé, Taina Williams.

G Herbo goes on to reveal that he was even drunk during the birth of his daughter. He said,
“We joke about it now but when my daughter was born, I was drunk in the delivery room. Because I’m excited, I’m nervous. But it’s just life going at me, I really went into a real depression when my little brother got killed. “

In January 2021, Lil Greg (born Gregory Jackson III)–the close associate of G Herbo who he considered a brother– was killed in a shooting in a South Loop barbershop in Chicago. According to reports, Lil Greg was in the Studio Nineteen barbershop shortly after noon on Jan. 28 when someone walked in and shot him in the face.
The 24-year-old from South Shore was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital a short time later. In a brief interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Jackson’s mother, Nicole Griffin, said Jackson was a father to two young children.

In his interview with The Breakfast Club, G Herbo credits the birth of his daughter as the main reason why he wanted to improve and cut back on drinking.
“As soon as my daughter was born, I started to get a little more disciplined. Just a little more. And that’s all you need, just a little more to just be better tomorrow than you was the day before. I’m still battling with it for sure, but I’m cool.”
